This is the image for the news article titled First Place TeamCongratulations to our first place Fluid Power Challenge team! Seventh graders Azjia Gardner, Pierce Greiner, Audrey Robb and eighth grader Martial Delrosario competed in this engineering competition by using fluid power to move an object from one location to another.

Sponsored by Wojanis Hydraulic Supply Company, the annual Fluid Power Challenge is held in the Carpenters Union Building on Ridge Road near Settlers Cabin.

The competition is designed to provoke creative thinking combined with hands on activities. Working in teams of four, students are given supplies and are charged to design and build a mechanism from tubing and balsa wood.

During a timed competition, students use a large syringe, filled with water, to force the fluid through the tubing and cause the device to move. The arm or extension of the device must pick up and move a block of wood from one location to another.

Prizes are awarded by judges for the best portfolio of documented work, teamwork and design.
